Thomas Edison invented the light bulb and also other inventions (electric battery and movie camera)
Before the invention of light bulb people used candles but they were dangerous and not very practical. You can burn yourself if you don’t pay attention.
Thomas Edison was born in the United States in 1847. He was an inventor and scientist. He created the world's first industrial research laboratory.
Thomas Edison was a curious man. He liked science and experiments so he always tried to invent things.
How does a light bulb work? Electricity flows into a filament made of carbon and when the filament heat up it glows (it lights up) so we have light.
What an incredible man he was!

Willis Carrier invented the air conditioning. He was born in New York in 1876. He was an engineer. Engineers are people who designs and builds things.
He wanted to reduce the temperature of room when it was very hot so he created a machine to cool the air. He was an engineer so he tried many experiments until he succeeded. He realized that he could dry the air by passing it through water creating fog.
Carrier is also a brand of air conditioners named after him (to thank Willis Carrier for his invention).

Grahan Bell invented the telephone in 1876.
Alexander Graham Bell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1847. He emigrated to Canada and then to the United States.
He was an inventor, engineer, scientist and teacher of dead people (people who can´t hear ). His mother and his wife couldn´t hear. They were deaf. He was also a deaf teacher so he wanted deaf people to understand the structure of sound. That motivated him to invent the telephone. It wasn´t easy but he tried and tried until he succeeded.
Thanks to the phone we can hear the voice of a person who is very far away from us (just meters of even many kilometers).

Charles Babbage invented the computer in 1822, in the nineteenth century. His first prototype was called the “Difference Engine”.
Charles Babbage was an English mathematician, philosopher and inventor. He was born in London, England in 1791. He is known as “ The Father of Computing”. He built his first computer on 1822 called the “ Difference Engine” and he continued improving it during all his life. At the end of his life he designed a more complex computer called the “ Analytical Engine” but it was never built because he didn´t have enough money. Thanks to his research, the first computer was built in 1991 using Charles Babbage´s idea. THANK YOU MR. BABBAGE!!!
Before the invention of computers, humans had to do all the work manually so it took a lot of time. It was harder and slower. Charles Babbage wanted to build a machine to make calculation faster than a person and with fewer mistakes. Finally, he didn´t build the computer but thanks to his idea we could build one in 1991.

Galileo Galilei invented the telescope in the seventeenth century.
Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa, Italy in 1564. He was a philosopher, astronomer mathematician, physicist and professor. He made very important contributions to the sciences. He invented the first telescope. That discovery revolutionized astronomy that is why it is called “the Father of the Modern Science”. The telescope is like a long hollow stick with lenses inside to see things that are far away from us, for example, the universe, stars, planets, the moon.
He discovered many things too, for example, the craters and mountains on the moon, the moons of Jupiter and that the Milky Way was formed by thousands of stars.

Who invented toys? It is impossible to know.
Toys have always existed. Kids have made toys out of anything they can find: sticks, rocks etc.
Toys have been found from ancient civilizations all around the Earth. In India scientists have found toys under the ground that are more than 4500 years old. Many toys we use nowadays come from China. For example, the kite. The kite was used 3000 years ago. The Chinese people also invented another old time toy , the yoyo. These ancient yoyos were made from wood , metal or painted clay. In Egypt, kids had dolls with movable limbs.
In Greece and Rome, kids also played with dolls , yoyos, balls , wooden swords , bows and little figurines.
A curiosity: when Greek kids came adults, it was tradition to burn all their favorite toys in a sacrifice to their Greek gods.

I am going to talk about an invention that everyone in the world have and use everyday: the pen.
Lazlo Biro invented the ballpoint pen. He changed the way we write now.
Lazlo Biro was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1899. He loved writing in school so when he left school Lazlo Biro became a journalist and an editor in Hungarian newspapers. He had to write many things and he always had problems with ink. Ink was very dirty and it was not an easy and a clean way to write. That´s is why he thought of another cleaner way to write. His brother was a chemist so his brother helped him to invent the first ballpoint pen. The ballpoint pen had a steel ball at the end of a hollow pen. They filled the hollow pen with ink so the little ball got covered in ink AND THAT WAS THE INVENTION OF THE PEN.
The first people who used the new ballpoint pen were the pilots if the Royal Air Force in the Second World War in Argentina. The Biro Brothers emigrated to Argentina to commercialize their invention.
A curiosity: every year in Argentina they celebrate the “ INVENTOR´S DAY” on the 14th of October, because it was Lazlo Biros´ birthday.

Philip Diehl invented the ceiling fan in 1887. A ceiling fan is a fan that is placed on the ceiling of a room. A fan has rotating blades. These blades create a current of air for cooling or ventilating a room or a space.
Philip Diehl was born in Germany in 1847. He grew up in Germany and after that, he emigrated to America.
He was a German-American mechanical engineer and inventor. He invented many things apart from the ceiling fan , for example, he improved the light bulbs.
He didn’t invent the electric fans. Electric fans already existed. He just invented the ceiling fan. His invention was a combination of several other inventions.

What an incredible man he was!!!

Guglielmo Marconi invented the radio in 1896. A radio is a way to communicate. You don’t need any wire.
It is a machine that transmits and receives electromagnetic waves over long distance. A radio can deliver or receive information from one place to another. Television also uses radio signals to send pictures and sound.
Guglielmo Marconi was born in Italy in 1874. He was an inventor and electrical engineer. He was very intelligent. He loved Sciences. He wanted to find the way to communicate wirelessly and he did. He invented the radio! In 1899, English government started using Marconi´s radio in their ships. That allowed the ship to communicate over long distances with other ships.
Curiosity: in 1912 when the famous ship “ Titanic” hit and iceberg and it sank , wireless messages were sent from Titanic for help using Marconi´s radio. Many people were saved because these messages were received by another ship.
Guglielmo Marconi also won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1909. What an incredible man he was!!!

Internet is a World Wide Web (www). It is a network or a system that connects millions of computers, mobile phones, tables and televisions all around the world. It´s a network of information. It is also a place where people upload a lot of information so the information continues to grow day by day. It is like a world wireless system.
Internet is not a big company, building or server. It is a great series of interconnected systems. They all work together. That is why no one person invented the internet alone. It was created around 1960 . The first prototype was created by the military. In 1990 a scientist called Tim Berners-Lee improved this system and he created the World Wide Web (www).

The bicycle is one of the most fun means of transport we have. It is also very ecological and very healthy because when we ride a bicycle we do physical exercise.
Who invented the bicycle? The bicycle was invented in several phases so there are several inventors involved in the bicycle´s invention:
The first bicycle in history was invented by a German man called Kark Drais in 1817.
That bicycle is very different from the bicycle we know now. It didn´t have pedals and you can to push the bicycle with your feet on the ground.
In 1861, a French man called Ernest Michaux added pedals on the front wheel but it didn´t work.
In 1873, a James Starley used Ernet Michaux´s bicycle and made the front wheel a lot bigger. That time it worked. This bicycle wasn´t very safe and comfortable.
Finally, John Kemp Starley invented a safe the bicycle with brakes in 1885. It wasn’t dangerous and it was more secure. It was similar to the bicycle we use now.

A stethoscope is a medical instrument used to listen to the sounds of the heart and lungs in the chest. The first stethoscope was a hollow stick made of wood. Now we can find stethoscopes made of metal.
This practice of hearing the sound of the heart and lungs is called “auscultation”.
The first stethoscope was invented by René Laennec in 1816. He was the first to practice the “auscultation”, the use of an instrument to listen to chest sounds (lungs or heart). The stethoscope must be applied very exactly and perpendicularly to the surface you want to hear.
René Laennec was born in France in 1781. He was a French physician and musician. He became a famous doctor in France. He studied a lot about human heart and lungs and all the diseases that can affect them.

No one person invented the car. There are many people who helped invent it but there is one important man in particular named Karl Benz.
A car is a means of transport that allows us to go from one place to another. It transports people. Nowadays cars have got four wheels. Cars have got an engine. There are big and small cars. We can find cars of many colors. My favorite color is white.
Karl Benz invented the car in 1886. The car he invented had 3 wheels and it was called “Motorwagen”.
Before the car, people used horses and carriages. Over the years cars have changed very much. Now we have electric cars and self driving cars (they don’t need a driver).
Kark Benz was born in Germany in 1844. He was a German engine designer and automotive engineer.

The language sign is a way of communicating by using the hands and other parts of the body. Deaf people, people who can not hear, use this language to talk. A Spanish monk was the first one to develop this method for teaching deaf people. His name was Pedro Ponce de León.
Pedro Ponce de León was born in Spain in 1520. He was the first one to establish a school for dead at the Monastery of San Salvador near Madrid.
How did he come up with the idea of a language sing for dead people? He was inspired by a system of signs he and other monks use to communicate to each other during silent meditation (when they weren´t allowed to talk). Pedro wasn´t the first person ever to use sign language to communicate. Many people in the past used this method to communicate when they didn´t know the language.
Today, people all around the planet use different regional variation of the same sign language.

No one person invented the book. There are many people who helped invent it.
The first form of writing date back almost 6000 years ago to an ancient people called the Sumerians. They used clay tablets and a triangular tool as a pencil to write. 1000 years later, in Egypt, people used papyrus to write. Papyrus were made from a plant. It seems like paper but it is not the paper we used now. They are very long and heavy. The Romans improved the papyrus. The Romans created a book. The covers of the book were made of wood and the pages were made of animal skins. In China, the books were made of thin pieces of bamboo (a plant). The first books were printed in China around 618 and 907. In the 1040s, a Chinese man called Bi Sheng invented movable type printing. This design will be improved by Johannes Gutenberg , the man who invented the PRINTING PRESS. With the printing press we can produce many books.
Today, we have many types of books: physical printed book, ebooks, audiobooks and digital books. Which one is your favorite?

The wheel is one of the oldest and greatest inventions of all times. Before the invention of the wheel, walking was the most common mode of transport. People used to carry goods on their head , their back or using sledges. Later, they starting using animals as horses. One day, they realized that the transport was easier and faster if they placed cylindrical tree trunk underneath the sledge. They cut a small circular piece of wood from a tree and they made a hole on its center and THAT IS THE INVENTION OF THE WHEEL.
Later, they added 4 wheels to each side of the sledge to create carriages pulled by horses.
Curiosity: the first wheel wasn´t used as a mode of transport but for pottery.
Over the time, the wheel became more advanced and it was used for cars, motorbikes, buses, trains or even airplanes. The invention of the wheel has changed not only transportation but also agriculture and industry.

Hello!
My name is Pedro, and today I’m going to talk about penicillin.
Penicillin is a very important medicine. It helps fight infections by killing bad bacteria. Before penicillin, even small cuts or sore throats could be very dangerous.
It was discovered in 1928 by a scientist named Alexander Fleming. He found that a green mold could stop bacteria from growing. That mold was penicillin!
At first, not many people believed him. But later, during World War II, doctors used penicillin to treat wounded soldiers—and it saved many lives.
Today, penicillin is still used to help people get better when they are sick.
Thank you for listening! Do you have any questions?

Vaccines are medicines that help protect us from dangerous diseases like measles or the flu. They teach our body to fight germs so we don’t get sick.
The first vaccine was created by Edward Jenner in 1796. He used a small amount of a safe virus to help people stay healthy.
Thanks to vaccines, we don’t get many diseases that used to be very dangerous.
Vaccines help keep everyone safe, especially children.

He is called the “Father of Microbiology.”
Hello!
My name is Bea, and I’m going to talk about the microscope.
A microscope is a tool that helps us see tiny things that we can’t see with our eyes, like bacteria and cells.
The first microscope was invented around 1590 by Zacharias Janssen. He was a Dutch man who made lenses.
Scientists use microscopes to study diseases, animals, plants, and even our blood. Thanks to microscopes, we understand the small world around us.
Thank you for your attention!

Hello!
My name is Martín, and I’m going to talk about the watch.
A watch is a small clock that we wear on our wrist to know what time it is. It helps us be on time for school, activities, and appointments.
The first watches were made in the 1500s. A man named Peter Henlein, from Germany, is believed to have made one of the first portable clocks around 1510. These early watches were big and worn on chains.
Later, people started wearing them on their wrists, and they became wristwatches. Today, we even have smartwatches that can show messages and track steps!
Thanks to the watch, we can organize our day and always know the time.
Thank you for listening!
